Notice Publicizing the Map Information Service

As a public service, the City of Wharton will provide you with the following information upon request:

  • Whether a property is located in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) as shown on the current Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) of the City.
  • Additional flood insurance data for the general area where a site is located such as the approximate base flood elevation, if shown on the FIRM, prior history of flood and is available possible depth of flooding if it occurs.
  • Flood Insurance literature for residents of the City who are interested in obtaining real estate loans for properties purchased in flood prone areas.
  • Whether a property is located in a floodway. If it is, we will explain the regulatory requirements for developing in a floodway.

If you would like to make an inquiry, please provide the street address and, if available, the subdivision, lot and block number.

City offices are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m., Fridays, except holidays. You may call City Hall at 979-532-2491 or come by the Building Department at 120 E. Caney Street, Wharton, TX 77488.

There is no charge for this service.  The Building Department has completed FEMA Elevation Certificates for buildings that were constructed in the floodplain since 2000 and maintains copies on location.
